THE BAND CONTEST.
Hastings, Feb. 24.
In the euphonium solo competition this morning the judge awarded points in the following order ; Hickman (Wanganui), 90 ; Williams (Wanganui), 86 ; Hartis (Gisborne), 84 ; McPherson (Newton), 79 ; Holmes (Petone), 69. The weather was fine for the quick-step competition this afternoon.

Beautiful weather is being experienced for the contest, which so far is a great success. The following are the results:— B Flat Cornet —J, Caulton (Hastings), 1 ; A. J. Berryman (Hastings), 2. Soprano Cornet—J. Trussell (Wanganui), 1 ; W. Francis, 2, March —Wanganui 1, Newton (Auckland) 2, Stratford 3. Trombone Trio—Wanganui 1, Hastings 2. Flugel Horn Gould (Wanganui) 1; Williams (Gisborne) 2. First Test to-night.
