CRICKET.
At the Park yesterday afternoon the Foxton team easily defeated Himatangi by 100 runs in the first innings.
Foxton batted first and at the afternoon tea adjournment had knocked up 145 runs for nine wickets- As stumps were to be drawn at six o’clock, only an hour and three-quarters was left for play and Nye decided to close the innings.
Himataugi replied with 45, thus leaving Foxton victorious by the above margin. For Foxton, Robinson 26, Martin 26, Bullard 18 not out, Nye 13, Puti 12 and Tawhia 10 not out, were the chief scorers. The first named played a sound innings only hitting at loose ones. Martin showed that he could put force into his strokes, his scores including four fours, he was badly missed at square leg when his score was six. Of the other batsmen Bullard gave the best display, scoring off almost every ball.
Himatangi’s bowling and fielding was weak. Of the Himataugi batsmen Ross 18, was the only double figure scorer. Caithness looked as if he was going to make a stand, but was run out through a very smart return by Tawhia. Nye was the most successful Foxton bowler, accounting for no less than five of Himatangi’s wickets. The fieldiug of the Foxton players was also poor, with the exception of Tawhia, who gave one of the best displays of fielding seen On the local ground. During the game afternoon tea was supplied by the local team. The following are the scores: — FOXTON Ist Innings.
