FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. Present His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower Esq.), and Crs. Hennessy, Coley, Jenks, and Shad bolt. The minutes of the previous meetings were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from the Dominion Cement Pipe Co., Hastings, forwarding price list and sample of pipe. From Mr E. Healey, complaining of the state of the footpath in front of his shop.
From the I ■jxton Brass Band, asking for a donation of ,£10; also asking Council to make some necessary repairs to band room. From Friendly Societies’ Council, forwarding cheque for £S Ss 6d being ten per cent of gate money on New Year’s Day. From New Zealand Shipping Co., offering £lO towards the cost of metalling near the company’s shed.
From the Mauawatu County Council, asking Council to appoint two members to attend a meeting of delegates from the Mauawatu and Rangitikei County Councils, Bulls Town Board and Foxton Borough Council, to consider the advisability of extending the tram line to Bulls.
From the Treasury, re bridge loan.
The poundkeeper reported that 31 head of cattle and 24 horses Fad been impounded by the ranger during the month, and driving fees amounting to £1 12s had been collected.
The Public Works Committee reported having inspected the old library buildings and recommended letting same at a low rental in their present state. Accounts amounting to £6g os gd were passed for payment. It was decided on the motion of Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Shadbolt, that a donation of five pounds be made to the Foxton Brass Band, payment to be made alter 31st March next.
Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Jenks that the secretary of the Manawatu Flaxmills Employees Union be informed that this Council cannot see its way to repair the building referred to in his letter of January 14th, but will be willing to let the building as it is at six shillings per week, and also the Council would let same for two years.—Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Coley that the footpath referred to ; in Mr Healey’s letter be repaired, also any other parts of the footpaths in Main Street. —Carried. The Mayor and Cr Hennessy were appointed delegates to meet the Manawatu County Council in reference to tram extension to Bulls.
It was decided on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, that the Town Clerk be authorised to make the necessary arrangements with the Returning Officer for holding the Licensing Committee election.
Proposed by Cr Heunessy and seconded by the Mayor, that a cheque be posted to the Clerk of the Court, Wellington, in satisfaction of W. H. Stewart’s summons with the proviso that the names of the three assignees named in the correspondence that passed between Mr Hindmarch and the Council sign the Court receipt.—Carried.
The Council rose at 9.30 p.m
