SCULLING.
Arnst gave a splendid exhibition on Saturday afternoon, at Auckland, between Pine Island and Kauri Point, over a mile and a-halt. For the greater part of the course he kept even with a four-oar crew by which he was paced, finally shooting ahead of the four-oar gig in a magnificent spurt. Arnst states that the stretch of water on Saturday was as good as the Paramatta, and an ideal championship course. He created the impression that if he retains the championship after his races abroad he will stipulate that the next match be rowed in Auckland. Arnst’s tongue is his drawback. He endeavours to sweeten up every waterside community by telling them that theirs is an ideal spot for a championship course. Very little reliance can be placed on such flippant opinion.
