THE TIMBER COMMISSION.
Interviewed by a Star representative at Auckland ou Monday, the Premier said the Timber Commission would consist of ten members. The sawmillers would be asked to nominate two members, the middlemen two members, the representatives of the Workers’ Unions two members, the builders one-member and the Government > three members, The Commission • will sit in the four centres and take evidence to enable the Government and Parliament to know every side of a problem in which great diversity exists. The timber ring had been accused of keeping prices up, and the fact that timber had gone up enormously :in price during recent years needed explaining. The question whether the imports of Oregon has been responsible for the decrease in the output of our mill? would also be gone into, and likewise the subject of the available supplies •of bush. The Commission, the Premier expects, will sit for six or eight weeks.
