A NEGLECTED RESERVE.
There is'"a little neglecj;ed section at the north end of Maids Street, opposite the Avenue, whiclf-could be transformed into a restful beauty spot if taken in hand by the local authority, and properly
laid out. “ It has been used as an old burying ground, and beneath thesod rest the remains of a number of old identities, Pakeha and Maori. The names on the headstones are very indistinct. The section is about half-au-acre in area, and we believe was given by the natives as a burial ground. Within the ground is a nice hillock which commands a fine view of Main Street. This rise could be terraced, and rustic seats placed in convenient spots where visitors and townspeople could pass a pleasant half - hour. The old graves could be fenced and put in order, and ornamental shrubs planted. Targe pine trees planted years ago afford a nice shelter. We sincerely hope that some enterprising councillor will move in the matter at next Council meeting.
