CRICKET.

The competition for the Austin Shield was continued yesterday afternoon, the Foxton team journeying to Himatangi and meeting the local team on their own pitch. Himatangi batted first and were all disposed of for the total of four runs, Ross being top scorer with two and Algar and Hartley each scored one. The bowling of the Foxton trundlers was excellent, Whibley secured five wickets without a run being scored off him, and Baillie who only bowled three balls accounted for two wickets. Martin was responsible for two at the cost of four runs, and the remaining batsman was run out.

On Foxton opening it looked as if they were going to follow Himataugi’s lead, Whibley being bowled by the third ball ot the first over, and Baillie was caught in the slips off the first ball of the second, three balls later Cook in attempting to run a short oue was run out, and the score then stood at three wickets for three runs. However, Nye and Robinson put a different complexion on things and brought the score up to 28 before Robinson was caught in attempting to pull one to leg. Martin was the only other batsman to make anything of a stand, the innings closing for 46 runs. Algar was the most successful of the Himatangi bowlers, securing three wickets for two runs. Grant and Caithness each accounted for two wickets, Witton for one and two men were run out. Requiring 42 runs to escape an innings defeat, Himatangi commenced their second innings, but though they did much better than in their first innings, their total fell short of the required number by five runs. Grant 16 not out, and Kilsby 7, being the chief scorers. Nye was in good form with the ball, securing three wickets for two runs. During the afternoon the teams were entertained at afternoon tea by the ladies of Himatangi, which was much.appreciated. The following are the scores : HIMATANGI Ist Innings. Another instance of the glorious uncertainty of cricket. The position of the teams in the competition tor the Austin Shield now stands: Foxton 6 points, Himatangi 4 points, Debaters o. The local Association is * endeavouring to arrange matches with the representatives from the Manawatu, Feilding and Horowhenua Associations, If the local “reps” are to put up any sort of game up against the representatives of these Associations they will haveto go in for practice. At present the only practice that the players get is in cup matches. Next Wednesday Himatangi and Debaters meet on the Park pitchy
