SAD DROWNING FATALITY.

Dannevirke, January 20. A sad drowning accident yesterday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of the two daughters of Mr Burke, butcher, occurred at Tiratu, about four miles from Dannevirke. A picnic was being held at the locality, when some children went into the river to bathe. Nancy Burke, aged eight, got out : Of her depth. Florence Burke, her Sister, aged 15, bravely endeavoured to -eiect a rescue, but waf also carried fcway by the current. Both vtere drowned.

Another sister,. Dora, was rescued by Mrs Petersen, who herself was nearly carried away by the heavy current.
