THE BEACH ROAD.

Thk track to the beach, after leaving the borough boundary, is still a cause for complaint by numbers of people who are compelled to use it. We have referred to this subject so often that further criticism seems like beating the air. The Manawatu County Council is the governing body which controls the stretch of land where the road is supposed to be. There is, however, another road (on paper) to the Sanatorium, which was laid off by the Lands Department. But nothing has ever been done by the Department to make it accessible for vehicular traffic. The County Council does not feel disposed to spend money out of general revenue to make a road which would not benefit half-a-dozen county ratepayers. The body referred to consider - that as the seaside benefits Foxtdu, and residents of Palmerston, these centres should contribute a fair proportion of the cost of forming and metalling a road. What we suggest is that a further deputation wait on the Manawatu County Council with a view of coming to some definite arrangement re constructing a suitable road, and then to ap=proach the Government through the Hon. A. W. Hogg, and ask for a grant-in-aid.
