FOOTBALL.
Dondon, January 13
The Scottish Rugby Union has cancelled the fixture with England because the English Union sanctioned payments to the “ All Blacks ” and the “ Wallabies ” of a guinea a week each, besides expenses. The Scottish committee are unanimously of opinion that these payments were contrary to the principles of amateur football, and amount to professionalism.
The Scottish Union complains that the Anglo-Welsh team which visited New Zealand in rgoß received daily allowances. A Win for the “ Wallabies.”
The Australian amateur football team, the “Wallabies,” scoring 11 points (one goal and two tries) defeated a Bristol and Clifton team, which scored three points (a try). The ground was heavy. In the first half play was even. For the Australians, Gavin obtained an unconverted try. In the second half, Hickey and M’Cabe scored tries, the latter being converted, and Bristol secured a try.
