London, January 11. The “ Waratahs ” (three tries) defeated (England (one try) The ground was in splendid condition, and the game was very fast. There were nearly 20,000 spectators.
The visitors put practically their best team in the field, although Moran was absent through lameness.
There was a sensational start, Mobbs (of Leicester) scoring a brilliant try in the first minute. Row obtained a lucky try 20 minutes later, the ball screwing away from the English three-quarter, who was trying to touch down. The scores were level at half-time.
The game was very exciting in the second half. Russell scoring a try by following up a high punt. Russell scored another brilliant try in the last minute after splendid passing by the three-quarters. The victory was chiefly due to the splendid scrum work by the forwards, who almost invariably secured the ball, giving the outsides. many fine openings.
