IMPOUNDING STOCK.
Our attention has been drawn to the fact that the conditions of the Impounding Act are not being complied with by the local poundkeeper, which may lead him or the local authority into serious trouble. It appears that a young horse has been in the pound since the first or second of this month, but, beyond a notification of same appearing on an envelope and attached to the pound fence, no further publicity has been given to the matter. The Act clearly points out that as soon as any beast is impounded, and if the owner is known to the poundkeeper or ranger, such owner shall be notified in writing immediately. If the owner of the beast impounded is not known an impounding notice must be inserted in one or more papers circulating in the district. A word to the wise should be sufficient.
