Rome, January 7. Ten people were rescued at Messina on Tuesday. Several business firms have recovered securities and sums of money from the ruins. The public services are improving and the people are calmer. Temporary expedients are being employed to replace the lighthouses and signal stations in the Straits of Messina. Prince and Princess Castellacci were buried in the ruins at Messina, but are still alive. Many dead are still under the ruins.

The Archbishop of Messina, who was reported dead, has been rescued from the ruins. He mounted the. roof of a building to give his benediction to the dying.
