FRIENDLY SOCIETIES SPORTS.

The Friendly Societies annual sports were held in Victoria Park yesterday. The weather was good and there was an attendance of about 1200. The officials all worked well together and the events were got off well up to the advertised time. Though the fields were small the racing was interesting, some very close finishes being witnessed. Two of the most' interesting events during the day were the baby shows, one for’ babies under six months and the other for over six months and under twelve months. There were about 20 babies entered, Major Dunk, of Palmerston, was the judge and awarded the Mrs Brock’s baby (under six months), and to Mrs Stratten’s (over 6 months). The Foxton Brass Band played several selections during the day. The following are the results of the different events 5 Maiden Race, 150yds.—Minogue 1, Thompson 2, Mexted 3. Nine started.

i Mile Bicycle Race.—Cooksley i, Hooker 2, Danulson 3. Nine started. Time, amin 2536 c. Boys Race (under 16) 100yds.— Walls 1.

Friendly Societies Handicap, 100yds. Minogue 1, Jenson 2, Mexted 3. Eight started. Time, 10 3*ssec.

Boys Bicycle Race, 1 mile.— Tennant 1, Reyburn 2, Hart 3. Four started. Time, 2tnin 46sec.

Friendly Societies Handicap, 220yds. Shields x, Revett 2, Thompson 3. Six started. Time, 22 2-ssec.

2 Mile Bicycle Race. —Danielson 1, Mills 2, Coulter 3. Time, 4mm 54 x-ssec. The only other starters Cooksley and Hooker fell.
