FRENCH PRESIDENT ATTACKED.

Pakis, December 27

Mathis, a fanatical Monarchist restaurant waiter, seeking notoriety, watched several days for the President, M. Fallieres. The latter was strolling in the Champs Elysee yesterday, when Mathis turned round, seized the President’s throat and tried to pull his beard. Both fell struggling, Mathis’ finger nails drawing blood behind the President’s ear. Mathis was immediately arrested. M. Fallieres continued his stroll.

The diplomatists hastened to the Elysee to express indignation at the outrage. Mathis was iu possession of a medallion of General Mercier, who was responsible for the Dreyfus arrest.
