Myers, described as a Jew from Australia, who was recently arrested at Pittsburg on a charge of grand larceny, has caused the arrest of his prosecutor, Piddisson (a Wall-street broker), alleging the renting of stock certificates so as to enable borrowers to obtain loans.
[Montefiore Myers is stated to be a fashionably dressed fellow. It is alleged that, pretending that he represented Rothschilds, and intended to invest 40 millions of money, he was introduced into the best circles. He is charged with stealing lumber bonds, and also with having failed to pay the deposit on an oil option. Myers describes the charges as based on perjury. He was for two months an honoured guest of Pittsburg magnates, and was feted and entertained at civic banquets. Many familiar letters and portraits from princes and eminent women were found in his possession.]
