An extraordinary story of the sale of a wife was told at Dunmow Police Court (England) on Wednesday, October 14th, when Samuel Lee, a market gardener, aged 70, was charged witlx neglecting his three illegitimate children, aged respectively eight, seven and five years. Mary Cuttrick, a middle-aged woman, said she had lived with Lee for twenty-two years, and there had been 12 children. Her first husband sold her to Lee for ,£5. Three months ago Lee turned her out with the two younger children, and had found a temporary home with a married daughter. Lee was committed for trial.
