Result of Recount. No-Llcense Lost by 2 3-sth Votes. Wellington, This Day. A recount of the Hutt Licensing Poll was held before Dr McArthur, S.M. yesterday afternoon and evening, and showed No*License to have been lost by only 2 3-sth votes. The returning officer after the official recount stated that NoLicense was lost by 27 1-5 votes. Yesterday’s recount shows that the No-License minority was reduced from 27 1-sth votes to 2 3-sth votes. The following were the figures: — Continuance... ... ... 2390 Reduction ... ... ... 2851 No-License ... ... ... 3619 Informal ••• ... ... 82 Valid votes ... ... ... 6036 The returning officer’s presence at the recount, was objected to by the No-License party, and upheld by the Magistiate. The refund of deposit was granted, for it was stated that in no single instance had the figures of the returning officer been sustained, and the totals gave a redaction of 25 voles in the number required to carry No-License. It is stated that the No-License Party will take further action. The recount has cause 1 cor.sffierable excitement throughout the Hutt Electorate.
