The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, November 28, 1908. AN APPRECIATION.
At the annual meeting of the Manawatu County Council last Wednesday, Mr Wilson, who was re-elected Chairman, in acknowledging the honour again conferred upon him, referred to the county elections and congratulated members on their re-election. He went on to refer to the general election, and spoke in appreciation of the services rendered to the district by their late member, Mr John Stevens. Generally speaking the Council were against Mr Stevens politically, but he never allowed this to interfere with his work as representative of the district. It was only fair to state that he had always taken an active interest iu the Council and for the ratepa} r ers. Political differences made no difference to him when consulted ou matters concerning the district. Mr Stevens had always given his cordial support to any question brought before him.
