Some persons at Martinborough perpetrated an objectionable trick on election night, writes our Wairarapa correspondent, by resorting to the old-time practice of throwing ancient eggs amongst the crowd. Amongst those who happened to become a casual target of the evil-smelling fusilade, was Mr D. P. Loasby. who had a suit of clothes ruined. The matter is in the hands of the police. Any person interfering with electors while going to or coming ftom the polling booth to-day by giving them roll numbers, etc., will lay themselves open to prosecution. At the first poll some glaring cases of “button-holing” ostensibly to give the voter his number, took place until the attention of the police was directed to it. Mr Fraser, local returning officer, has been advised that it is within his jurisdiction to take proceedings against enthusiastic partisans who overstep the bounds.
