Reported Attempt to Upset

the Roil.

Masterton, November 21

The returning officer (Mr W. Gillespie) completed to-day the official count of the recent local option poll, and the result is that No-License has been carried by 34 voles. There were 5423 valid votes, cast as follows :—Continuance, 2111 ; Reduction, 2522; NoLicense, 3287. The count and scrutiny of rolls were expected to last until Monday, but the returning officer, with his staff and scrutineers, worked at high pressure to-day to complete the task before. Sunday. There are rumours of a petition being lodged by the publicans’ party to upset the poll.
