A PROTEST.
[to the editor.] Sir. —l beg to say that I absolutely refuse to authorize my signature to the advertisement (copied from the Feilding Star) in relation to Mr Stevens’ candidature at the Second Ballot. The advertisement was inserted in the Feilding Star as a result, I believe, of a conversation held between Mr Sidney Fitzherbert, of Feilding, and myself at my house yesterday morning. In that conversation I expressly told him that, while (in consequence of the doubtful strength of our Party in the new Parliament) I was anxious to help to save the Manawatu seat for the Ward Government, of which I am a warm adherent, I did not wish my name used in any way which would fail to inform the public that my support was purely in the interests of the Party, and was quite unconnected with the individualties of the two candidates.—l am etc., F. W. Frankeand. [We have deleted Mr Frankland’s name as requested.— Ed. H.]
