An Explanation.
Mr Newman desires us to state that after the result of the first ballot, Mr F. W. Fraukland, unsolicited, expressed his intention to support Mr Newman’s candidature in the second ballot. Since Mr Fraukland made this assurance of help to Mr Newman, an advertisement containing Mr Frankland’s signature among others had appeared in tpe Feilding Star, supporting the candidature of Mr Stevens. This morning Mr Newman received the following telegram from Mr Frankland c I authorise you to state i that before realising critical f significance to my party of '<■ some of the pending second ballots, I wished you success \ on account of your greater sympathy with No-License.”
Mr Newman desires us to state the large amount of support promised him from supporters of either Messrs Frankland or Gardner were quite unsolicited and tendered voluntarily.
