THE HOLIDAY.

The weather for the holiday yesterday, though overcast and breezy did not preyent numbers of people from enjoying a pleasant outing. The trains from Palmerston to Foxton were well filled, and a large number patronised the local Sports, while others made their way to the beach, and along the river bank. Owing to the fire, which almost destroyed the two steamers early yesterday morning, the Presbyterian Committee decided to cancel the special excursion train from Palmerston, as the shipping owners had not the necessary boats at their disposal to convey the excursionists to the beach. Much disappoin}ment was caused to would-be holiday-makers Palmerston, when they were told that the special had been cancelled, but a large number came by the later excursion train.
