SUFFRAGISTS.

Leaders Charged at Bow

Street.

London, October 22

The hearing of the cases against the suffragettes was continued at the Bow Street Police Court. Miss Christabel Pankhurst elicited from Mr Lloyd-Geotge, Chancellor of the Exchequer, that he was present at the Trafalgar Square meeting on October n. Mr Eloyd-George in evidence said he considered the demonstrations formidable, and thought the suffragists’ appeal to the public to rush the House of Commons was very serious.

Mr Herbert Gladstone, Home Secretary was also examined. He thought that the proposed rushing of the House of Commons meant the employment of force. The re* suit of the suffragist demonstration against the House of Commons was 37 arrests and the theft of 40 watches and purses. Defendants insisted that Liberal statesmen had encouraged the suffragists to adopt the line of action they had followed. Hearing of the cases was further adjourned.
