SHOT BY BURGLARS.

Brisbane, October 19

J. Muir, a junior clerk in the Gayudah branch of the Commercial Banking Company, of Sydney, was found shot dead in the back premises of the bank last night. A railway porter passing the bank heard a sound of the breaking of glass aud summoned the police, who discovered Muir’s body on the floor. There were indications of a burglary. The burglars had tampered with but failed to open the safes. The bank was a small wooden building. Muir was a youth of iS.and only recently went to Gayudah.

The manager was temporarily absent and Muir took ‘his place sleeping in the bank. lie left his boarding-house to go to the bank a few minutes before the shots were heard. It is believed the burglar was hidden in the bank and shot Muir on entering his bedroom. A strange hat and a broken lamp were lying near the body, which bore four revolver wounds, the filth through the hand. A man suspected has disappeared.
