Turbulent scenes were witnessed at a meeting of the London County Council. Mr Smith, secretary of the Right-to - Work Committee, insisted on moving an urgency motion regarding the provision of work for the unemployed, although the chairman had ruled it out of order.

The Government would not give a day for discussion of the Government’s action with reference to the Eucharistic procession, unless the Leader of the Opposition asked for it.
