MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above was held at Sanson, yesterday. Present:—Crs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), Thus. Masters, J. Henson, G. Kendall, J. Dalton, R. B. McKenzie, W. E. Barber. ' In reply to the Hordwhenua County Council, asking contribution towards cost of opening Shan-uou-Foxton bridge, it was decided to offer ,£5. The Treasury wrote stating that loan of ,£6oo for drainage works on the Oroua estate had been pro visionally approved. The ranger was instructed not to range on County roads between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., and instructed to lay an information against any one running stock on the roads of the County during the night.

K. W. Dalrymple, suggesting that a valuation be made by some competent man of the Native reserves at Kaihokopu lake in case the Maoris made a claim for compensation in respect to the drains at some future time.—Agreed to. The Tramway manager reported that there was a credit balance for the month of £26 18s rod. The volume of traffic, both in goods and passengers, had been satisfactory. The fares for the month amounted to £l4 7S 1 id. The principal items of traffic were: Grain tons, minerals 67! tons, merchandise 93 tons, metal 390 yards, timber 80,100 feet and eight horses. The Treasurer reported that the general account stood, dr., £3459 ns 7d; loan account, cr,, ,£978 14s 3d. The amounts available for expenditure in the several ridings were Saudon £2Ol, Waitohi £92, Rongotea £7O, Carnarvon £18:, Kawa Kawa £298, Awahou £9l, Whirokino division £l7. ‘Mt. Stewart was oyer-expended £35. The sum of £2190 was passed for payment, including large payment in respect to the ShannouFoxtou bridge. The Treasurer pointed out that the overdraft was now close to the limit and very few rates coining in. OTHER BUSINESS.

Application for alteration on the rate roll was approved : —J. A. Perreau to C. F. Johnston tor section 389-95, Foxton. On the motion of Cr M isters the overseer was directed to use the road grader on the Sanson-Bulls road to render it more safe on the side oppposite the tram line, in case of a horse shying from a motor car or any other cause. This being the last meeting of the present Council, it was decided to hold a committee meeting on Tuesday, November 3rd, at 2 p.m. to pass accounts. The County Clerk, Mr A. K. Drew, was appointed returning officer to conduct the elections ofja new Council.
