EDUCATION BOARD.
Ordinary Meeting.
By Telegraph—Special to Herald. Wanganui, Oct. 8. The ordinary meeting of the above was held last night. Present : —Messrs Pirani (chairman), Aldridge, Bennett, Cargill, Dixon, Fraser, Purnell, and Spurdle. Feave of absence was granted to Mr Guthrie.
Appointments :~Miss W'alts, Sanson ; Mr Rockel, Teroti ; Miss Sunway, Pukeokahu ; Miss Gillianders, Normanby; Miss "McKenzie, Komako; Miss Ainsworth, Kukata; Miss Bryce, Terrace End ; Miss V. Anna Bell, Mawhienia.
Feave of absence was granted to Miss A. Voysey, E. S. Barker, D. Anderson, and E.'Rockell. Resignation: B. E. Sixtus, Umutoi.
The Foxton Committee wrote, objecting to the Board appointing pupil teachers without consulting the Committee. —Resolved to inform the Committee that the Board will not, and never has consulted committees in respect to the appointing of pupil teachers, nor is there any requirement in the Act that they should do so. Resolved to call for applications for the position of carpenter to the Education Board at a salary of £2:O.
Feilding.—The Board decided not to supply the additional desks asked for.
Eongburu. —The offer of a site was received from Mr Chamberlain, and it was resolved to hold matter over, pending further enquiries.
Accounts amounting to 2s pd were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned till Wednesday, 21 st October.
The Board then sat as a Board of Governors of the Girls’ College. It was decided to ask Mr Rowe, of Christchurch, to conduct the annual examination, and that he be assisted by the Chief Inspector, Mr Braik.
It was resolved that Eady Plunket be asked to present the prizes on the 10th December. The governors were highly pleased at the very successful results of the musical examinations, and complimented the instructors for same.
Resolved to appoint another assistant teacher rendered necessary by the growth of the college. Accounts amounting to ,£4l 13s 4d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned till 2ist inst£
