At the ceremony in the N.Z. Shipping Co.’s Buildings yesterday, Messrs J. J. K. Powell and O. Beere, in the course of their speeches, touching the opening of the gas works, animadverted upon the pleasure it gave them at seeing so many healthy-looking children present. Coming from the city, the contrast was more noticeable. We feet sure such remarks were highly complimentary to the mothers present. Permit us to say, however, that there are not as many little children in Foxton as we would like to see.
