THE NIMROD.

Christchurch, Oct. 6

The British Antartic Expedition ship Nimrod has .for some time past been undergoing a thorough overhaul in view of her early departure from Lyttelton to bring back Lieutenant Shackelton and his colleagues from the Far South. Every part of the vessel has received attention, and, in the words of one of the crew, she is now a much better ship than when she left London. The Nimrod will be placed in commission during the first week in November, and is due to sail for the frozen South on December Ist. Captain Evans, who is to take command, is at present in Sydney undergoing his Royal Naval Reserve training. The departure of the Nimrod early in December instead of in January has been arranged in order to economise coal as much as possible in case she is compelled to winter in the South.
