CRIB TOURNAMENT.
Foxton v. Sanrion.
The above tournament took place in Mr Perreau’s rooms last night, and resulted in a win for the local players by 14 games, some of them being very exciting, with close finishes. Prior to the proceedings commencing, His Worship the Mayor (Mr Gower), in a few well-chosen remarks, welcomed the Sandon players. He stated that it was the first crib tournament to his recollection, that had taken place in Foxton, and he hoped that one and all would spend an enjoyable time. It was resolved that there should be five games played in the doubles, and three in the singles. When the latter stage was reached, it was found that the assets were not available, so it was decided to play three more doubles, and these were finished in good time. Refreshments were supplied by Mr Perreau, and thoroughly appreciated. At the close Mr Drew (Sandon) thanked Foxton players for the pleasant evening afforded them, and though defeated, hoped to have their revenge when Foxton visited them at an early date. Mr Reade suitably responded, remarking that it was a treat for Foxton to win, seeing that both in football and cricket Sandon had come out on top. He hoped that this tournament was only the fore-runner of many more. A move was then made to the station, and the Sandou folk were accorded a hearty send-off. Following is a detailed statement of the games played :
