Dunedin, October 2, Albert Robert Beverige, a lamplighter, was brought to his mother’s house at Caversham last night by three men, who laid him on his bed, saying that he would be all right in the morning. His mother found him dead in the morning, and examination revealed a fractured skull. Ashburton, October 2. A peculiar shooting affair was reported to the police this morning, It appears that William McClimont, a resident of Mount Somers, on answering a kock at his door last night, was confronted by a tall man, who ordered him to put up his hands, at the same time thereatening him with a revolver, McClimont immediately attempted to shut the door, and the visitor fired, the ball grazing McClimont’s ear. The miscreant then decamped. Investigations are proceeding. Christchurch, October 2. The death is reported of Mr Charles Kidson, the sculptor. He died this morning at his residence, Cashmere Hills, He had been ailing for a long time though his health improved somewhat recently. He had been a teacher at the School of Arts and his more recent works were the statue of Mr Rolleston and the bust of Sir John Hall. He leaves a widow and three children, one being only a few weeks’ old.
