The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, September 17, 1908. LEVIN-FOXTON-GRISAT-FORD RAILWAY.
Mayor Ga'rdivNKr, of Levin, who is taking a very active interest in the agitation for the Levin-Foxton-G real ford railway, is endeavouring to arrange that the deputation of representatives from all the local bodies throughout the - districts interested, wait on the Minister for Railways at Wellington on Wednesday next. In conversation with our representative last evening, Mr Gardener stated that he was waiting for a definite reply from the member lor Otaki, who was arranging the interview. Mr Gardener staled further, that the deputation, which is to wait on the Ministry in reference to granting extended borrowing powers to
local bodies, could be merged into the railway deputation. It is passible that this excellent suggestion will be carried out. We hope every local body interested will send along as many delegates as possible, in order to impress upon the Ministry the necessity for linking up the Main Trunk Ipne, The agitation must not he allowed to Hag, as it is only by repeated applications and Ministerial carpettreading, that success can be expected. We know that the Government are favourable to tire construction of the line. That point is settled. It is now a question of how long ? It will be necessary for the deputation to put forth good reasons for urgency. We suggest that a league be formed, and meetings held throughout the district. The objective can only be reached by systematic battling and self-sacrilice on the part of the promoters.
