TECHNICAL CLASSES.
Mr Fossey, the Wanganui Education Board’s technical director for the southern district, visited Foxton on Thursday and inspected the rooms in the old school house, in which it is proposed at a later date to fit up with the necessary appliances for woodwork and cookery instruction. Subsequently he conferred with the following members of committee at an informal meeting: Messrs Hofnblow (chairman). Rev. Aitken (secretary), Hennessy, Betty and Bullard. It was decided to commence classes next week for dressmaking and millinery (Miss Dorrian), commercial arithmetic, correspondence and precis writing (Mr Adams). The classes for the latter would be held every Monday, and the dressmaking and millinery classes possibly on Tuesday afternoons and evenings. The committee was of opinion that classes for cookery and woodwork should be started, and Mr Fossey said as soon as a grant was obtained for equipment, the classes could then be proceeded with. It was decided to purchase the necessary benches for dressmaking, etc., and hold certain of the classes in the new buildings until the appointments were ready in the old school.
