A correspondent of the Lyttelton Times says: “I am a tenant of a worker’s dwelling at Sydenham, and can therefore speak of the benefits derived under the Workers’ Dwellings Act. Before taking my present dwelling I paid ibs.per week rent for an old house of six rooms and wash-house, and no other conveniences. My present dwelling has five rooms, bathroom, scullery and wash-house, water and gas laid over the house. For this house I pay 12s 4d per week, which amount includes rates and insurance. Thus, I have an up-to-date cottage, with all conviences (which means less work to my wife), and a direct saving of of 3s 8d per week. I have the same size plot of ground as I had previously and am no further from the city.
