FOXTON RACING CLUB.
Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of members of the above club was held in the club’s office last evening. There was a large attendance of members present. Mr F. E. Jenks was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The balance-sheet as audited and report were read and adopted. Officers were elected as follows ; Patron, J. Stevens, M.P. (re-elect-ed) ; president, J. R. White (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Barber and F. E. Jenks (reelected); treasurer, Mr G. Gray (re-elected) ; lime-keeper, Mr E. Smith ; clerk of course, Mr C. Peterson ; bon. surgeon, Dr Mandl; clerk of scales, Mr Jas. Symons; judge, Dr O’Brien; stewards, Messrs C. Robinson, A. Symons, O. Robinson, C. A. W. Hunt, O. E. Austin, L. W. Wilson, W. C. Howan ; auditors, Messrs F. E. Jenks and P. Hcnnessy. One new member was elected.
The secretary was voted a bonus of The annual repoit was read as follows Your Committee have pleasure in placing before you, the twenty-sixth annual statement and balance sheet of the Foxton Racing Club for the year ending June 30th., 1908/ The result of the past year’s operations must be very gratifying to members of the Club, the season being one of the best experienced since the inception of the Club. Notwithstanding that the Club was compelled to license bookmakers under the provisions of the Gaming Act of last year, the proceeds from the totalisator show an increase over that of the previous year, whilst the amount of bookmakers fees total Members must be congratulated on the improved financial position of the Club, as disclosed in the balance sheet, starting the year with a debit balance of ißs 3d, we now have, after payment of the balance of the purchase money, viz : on the section where the office stands, a credit balance of ;£xßx 1433 d. The total receipts for the year show the sum of £2720 2s, the principal items under this heading being ; proceeds from the totalisator ,£1365 12s, gates ,£265 7s, nominations and acceptances ,£367, cards £,105 6s and bookmakers’ fees as stated above. During the year ,£ISOO was paid away in stakes, Government Tax amounting to £222 17s gd, salaries ,£139 14s, and printing and advertising ,£BS 13s 3d were some of the chief payments made. It is pleasing to find that the efforts of the committee in placing the training tracks in their present condition, have been appreciated by trainers, the revenue irom this source showing a substantial in crease over any previous year. A hearty vote of thanks is due to all officials (honorary and otherwise) for their untiring efforts in the welfare of the Club. Your committee now retire, but are eligible for re-election. Balance (June. 30th, 1907) £240 18s sd, stakes £ISOO, salaries £139 14s, printing and advertising £BS 13s 3d, Mrs Thynue (section) £l5O, do. interest £6 15s, rates (£lO 6s 8d) and insurance (£lO 3s 3d) £2O 9s 1 id, rent (trustees) £5, Government tax £222 17s gd, labour and improvements £22 4s 7d, Langley (luncheons) £27 5s 6d, labour on race days £32 xos, band (£ls) and detective (£6 6s) £2l 6s, commission on cards sold £6, racing conference (levy) £2 os 6d, do. (rules) £1 4s, legal expenses £4 13s, turf tegisters £1 11s 6d, ambulance corps (£ 1 8s) and P.O. box (20s) £2 Bs, bank interest (to 31st March) £l3 2s 6d, bank fee (two accounts) £l, sundry small accounts £7 16s gd, stationery, postage, telegrams and exchange £ll 7s id, outstanding cheques £l2 xos, balance £lßl 14s 3d, total £2720 23. On the motion of Dr. Mandl the outgoing officers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks, and the meeting rose.
