America’s consent is confined to a blockade, and expressly excludes the military occupation of Venezuela.
Pretoria, August 20
Following on an interview between the leaders of the Asiatics, who protest against the Registration Act, and General Botha (Premier of the Transvaal), and General Smuts (Colonial Secretary of the Transvaal), the Transvaal Government decided to withdraw the Registration Validation Bill.
The question of the registration of Asiatics will -be referred to a select committee of the Transvaal Assembly.
Vienna, August 20.
The Vienna Cabinet, in reply to Russia’s Note concerning Macedonia and Turkey, agrees to the wisdom of temporarily withdrawing the reform scheme, as events in Turkey are tending in the direction of the main objects of the policy of the Powers. Sydney, August 20.
During the course of a sham fight in the Liverpool district there were several nasty accidents.
The country being operated over was rough. A cavalry charge was ordered, and while it was in progress Captain Wedd was unhorsed and badly hurt. Several men were also thrown and injured, while two horses were killed.

The New York World supports the candidature of Mr W. J. Bryan (nominee of the Democrats) for the Presidency.
The World describes the issue as between democracy and plutocracy.
Vienna, August 20,
All heads of States in Europe, and President Roosevelt, sent greetings to the Emperor Francis Joseph yesterday on the occasion of the official celebration of his Majesty’s birthday. There were great popular rejoicings through-out AustriaHungary.
Special toasts were given at banquets held in honour of King Edward, the Kaiser, and the Czar.
[The Emperor was born on August 18th, 1830, succeeded to the throne of Austria in 1848, and was crowed King of Hungary in 1867.] _
