Writing to the Daunevirke Advocate, Mr D. Munro, of Weber, saysA paragraph appeared in your paper inviting discussion on the moa from Mr Thomas A. Bryce, as to how long a period since the moa became extinct. I am fully of tbe same opinion as the late Mr Colenso, that there has been no live moa in New Zealand for the last four hundred years. It is well known that bones will keep preserved in clay and sand for, I may say, thousands of years. Further, I entirely disagree with Mr Percy Smith that the Maoris landed in New Zealand four hundred years ago. I am fully of the opinion that the period when the Maoris landed would be about fifteen hundred years ago.
