TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
It would appear an almost impossible task to establish a technical school in Foxton, The subject has been thoroughly threshed out by the Board’s experts, money has been subscribed by the public, the old school has been placed at the disposal of the committee, circulars containing all necessary information have been issued, teachers have been appointed for the various classes, and with what result? Fifteen entries have been received : Dressmaking, four; shorthand, three ; arithmetic, three ; English, two; book-keeping, two; millinery, 1. Not sufficient entrants to justify the opening of one class ! We are sorry to say the subject of technical education, so far as Foxton is concerned, has become fetid with the stagnation of death. Why ? Because we lack the services of an enthusiastic organiser, and until such a person comes to light, technical education will remain a dead letter in Foxton.
