MOUTOA BRIDGE EXTRA.
The; erection of the Moutoa bridge has exceeded by about the contract price. The extra cost was occasioned through interference with the structure by the Marine Department, after the contract was under weigh, and further, by the extra cost for supervision occasioned by the delay in the delivery of the timber for tae structure. The Government has subsidised the cost of construction £ for £ on the contract price, and a deputation consisting of representatives of the Horowheuua County Council, and Foxton Borough Council, waited on the Hon. Jas. Carroll at Shannon on Monday, with a request that the Government would extend the subsidy on the extra incurred above the contract price. The Hon. Carroll promised to place the matter before the Minister for Public Works. In view of the fact that the local bodies interested had no control over the extra cost incurred, and taking all the facts into consideration, we feel sure that the Government will graciously accede to the extension of the subsidy.
