DISASTROUS BUSH FIRES.
Loss of 800 Lives and 10,000 Homeless. Damage Estimated at Four Millions. Vancouver, August 4. A great bush fire occurred in the Kootenay Valley (British Columbia), and is still raging. It is reported that 800 lives have been lost, and 10,000 are homeless, and the damage is estimated at Seven towns are destroyed. On Saturday morning the fire appeared on the coast mountains of West Fernie, and ran downwards, enwrapping the town.
Some 6000 inhabitants are now encamped on the praire. A number of buildings at Michel were dynamited to make gaps, thus saving the town. The Government is sending relief to the sufferers.
