The first match for the Abraham Cup was played on (he Palmerston Showgrounds on Saturday, between learns representing the Albion and Palmerston Clubs. According to the conditions for this competition, if the score is even at the end of (he game, the teams must play two further stells of ten minutes each. In this game the first two spells ended with the score three all, but in the play off Albiona showed want of training, and Palmerston were left the victors by 6 points to nil. The game was not a good exhibition of football, both sides missing several good chances of scoring through failing to take passes. Just before the end of the first spell Martis secured possession, and dodging through the Albion backs, scored in a good position. Downes failed to increase. The second spell opened with Albums attacking, and good chances of scoring were thrown away through the f rwards kicking too hard. From a faulty kick Puli secured a mark, and taking the kick himself, equalised the score. From this on to the end of the spell the play was very even, Palmerston having slightly the best of it.
