THE BEACH ROAD.
Discussed by the Palmerston Chamber Of Commerce. At yesterday’s meettng of the Palmerston Chamber of Commerce, the chairman (Mr J. M. Johnston) brought up the question of the beach road to Foxton, saying that he understood that there were now about sixty cottages at the beach, and the road was simply impassable. Pie thought the secretary should be instructed to write to the Manavvatu County Council asking if it has yet obtained an estimate from the overseer. Mr J. A. Nash thought efforts should still be made to get the small line of railway constructed to the beach. As a site for a watering place, Foxton had not its equal in the Dominion. There was a magnificent beach, and something should be done to make it more approachable. He moved that a deputation wait on the Prime Minister and ask his assistance in forwarding the construction of both the railway and road. Mr Hennessy (Foxton) said that if the Harbour Board Bill passed through Parliament the railway or the road would necessarily come, and he thought that to bring the twb matters before Parliament at once might be inadvisable.
Mr Nash altered his resolution to read (hat a committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs Haydon, Seifert, Hoben and the mover, be set up to go nito the matter and report at' tfc» annual meeting, and the motion was carried.
