WELCOME SOCIAL.
A very pleasant social gathering took place in the Methodist Schoolroom last evening, when a welcome home was tendered to Mr S. H. Baker and his bride, and a welcome to the district was extended to Mr Coker and family, who have recently come to this district from Feilding. The Rev. Mr Mairs presided. Musical and other items were rendered by Mrs Laugley, Master Willie Cooper, Miss Signall,. Messrs Rev. Mairs, Betty, Bangs, Moorman, Bullard, Hornblow, and two excellent violin selections by Mr Duncan. Mr Moormon played the accompaniments. At a suitable juncture a presentation was made by Mr Stiles to Mr Baker, on behalf of the Sunday School teachers, and scholars, and church members. Mr Stiles referred to Mr Baker’s good qualities as a citizen and church worker. He congratulated him on nis matrimonial choice, and on behalf of all, wished Mr and Mrs Baker a long and happy life. He then asked Mr Baker to accept a handsome silver epergene and doulton biscuit barrel. Mr Baker feelingly responded, and wound up a happy speech by ad-« vising all young men to follow his example.—The Rev. Mr Mairs then formerly welcomed the Coker family to the district on behalf of the Methodists. He referred to Mr Coker as a sterling Church worker and a Sunday School teacher. He hoped the family’s stay in this district would be as happy and prosperous as in the one they had left.—Mr Coker humbly acknowledged the warm welcome on behalf of himself and family. Refreshments were provided in abundance by the lady members of the congregation, after which games were indulged in and a most enjoyable time spent.
