The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, JULY 25, 1908.

In reference to the recent controversy which has taken place in the columns of this journal relating to a sermon preached by the vicar of All Saints’ Church, and published by us, and which led to a challenge to a public debate, we have now to inform our readers that there is no likelihood of a debate of the nature suggested being carried out. Since the publication of the last correspondence from the pen of the Rev. G. K. Aitken, Presbyterian minister, he and the Rev. G. Young-Wood ward have been in private correspondence, with the result that Mr Young-Wood ward is satisfied that no bitterness was shown by Mr Aitken, and both agree that the public debate of the subjects proposed is not likely to lead to Christian edification, and is therefore dropped. The Rev. G. Young-Woodward, however, proposes on a Sunday evening in the near future to preach a sermon on Apostolic Succession, when all interested will be able to hear the grounds and authorities on which the doctrine is based, and he invites the Rev. G. K. Aitken to set forth his side of the question on a subsequent Sunday evening, when again those interested will be in a position to hear and judge for themselves.
