LOCAL BODIES BORROWING POWERS.

Deputation to Wait on Prime Minister. What the Manawatn County Council Contemplates. By telegraph— special to Herald. Wellington, July 25. The Rt. Hon. the Premier has consented to receive a deputation from local bodies on the Wests Coast, to be introduced by Mr John Stevens, on the question of extended borrowing powers, for Local Bodies. After legislation on the subject has been introduced in this connection, the Manawatu County Council is desirous that provision should be made whereby Local Bodies may borrow for the construction and renewal of tramways and the purchase ot rolling stock and machinery etc., thereby enabling it to borrow for the purpose of extending the line and relaying the track with heavier rails, which, under the present Act, are not purposes for which a local body may borrow.
