STREET LIGHTING.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to discuss the question of street lighting. Present; His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower Esq) and - Crs Gray, Wilsou, Franklaud, Stiles, and F. E. Jenks. Correspondence was read from the Gas Company stating that the price per street lamp would be £$ per annum, to include maintenance, etc.

Cr Franklaud propsed and Cr Stiles seconded that the clauses of the Gas Company’s contract be agreed to, subject to all pipes being laid to the sites of existing lamp posts, without extra, as per former resolution of this Council. Also, that the lamps be lit on the night after full moon, but not on/ last night but one. A lengthy discussion took place in reference to the situation ot the lamps. The number decided upon was 25. The six to bejerected in Main Street will be situated in the centre of the street. All the important intersections throughout the borough will be served.
