The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, JULY 18, 1908. A DANGEROUS CORNER.
Wii direct the attention of the Borough Council to the necessity for taking action to have a lootpath formed along Park Street to the south side of Thynue Street. If something is not done to stop vehicular traffic from cutting off the corner in turning from Park Street to Thynne Street at the corner of Mr Rose’s residence, a frightful accident is likely to happen. Mr Rose’s section in Thynne Street is bounded by a high corrugated iron fence, which makes it impossible for pedestrians to see any vehicle that may be coming along Park Street en route for Thynne Street. No footpath is formed, and drivers of vehicles cut the corner. Several accidents have lately been narrowly averted at this dangerous spot, and we hope the Council will not wait for a Coroner’s inquest before taking action. After heavy rains a large pool of water also collects at this corner. Some
time ago the Council passed a resolution authorising footways to be constructed in this and other localities, but nothing has been done. If the Council cannot see its way to carry out this work at once, perhaps it will instruct the roadman to erect a barrier during his spare time. In this matter we are voicing a grievance on behalf of parents whose children attend the school, and who use this thoroughfare, and we hope the Council will “ give ear unto our cry.”
