A DISTRESSING CASE.
Christchurch, July 15
A very distressing accident occurred in the School Road (off Crescent road) St. Alban, this morning. A little girl named Gibbons, about five years of age, was playing in front of the fire when her clothing caught alight and in a few moments she was enveloped in flames. Dr Gerald Russell was called in, and was promptly in attendance, but found the little girl in a very pitiable condition. She was shockingly burned all about the body, her right arm being practically charred. The doctor bandaged the little sufferer,* and alleviated her agony as much as possible, and then removed her to the hospital in his motor-car. The child is in a very critical condition, and it is feared that her terrible injuries may have a fatal termination. [A later message announces her death.]
